Worst Anime I’ve Seen So Far — 31 Day Anime Challenge (Day 1)

This is not the 30 Day Anime Challenge!

I know that not all of you were here for it, dear compatriots, but I’ve already done that! 2017 seems so long ago now, right? Another time! No pandemic! My first year on a new job! I don’t know where you were in 2017, but I’m sure something’s changed.

Regardless, as stated, this is not the 30 Day Anime Challenge! Instead, I’m undertaking the 31 Day Anime Challenge! That means new prompts and back to daily posting for the next month? Can I do it??

Well, I managed the first time, and at that time I was still employed (again, thanks, pandemic), so I’m sure I can manage now!

Day 1 of the 31 Day Anime Challenge asks me for the worst anime I’ve seen so far.

I’ll preface by saying that, just like last time I attempted a “favorites” challenge, I’m bad at claiming them. The reverse is also true. Rather than saying I think something is “best” or “worst,” I’m going to qualify it as simply something I like a lot or dislike a lot. Now, on to the prompt!

From an objective standpoint, Diabolik Lovers isn’t a very good anime, but I still had a lot of fun yelling at the characters for their on screen choices (with a glass of red wine, I might add), so I can’t call it the worst I’ve seen. No, that award goes to the anime that freaked me out so bad I couldn’t even get through the first episode.

The orgy-dance party-thing was where I noped out. When I started watching, I thought I was getting into a fairly violent come-drama-dy about two gay devils (yes, really) and I was… very wrong. ANYWAY.

If you want to read my shocked (abet brief) reactions, you can do so here. Basically, I was just… disgusted. It was sordid for pointless shock value and remains to this day the most heinous thing I’ve ever seen. It made me physically nauseous, and I didn’t even finish the dance club scene. I rarely review things I didn’t like, and so I left my attempt at watching the show on my blog as an acknowledgement that—though hate is a strong word I don’t like to use—I hated it.

Until tomorrow…

…stay home when you can, wear a mask when you can’t, wash your hands, and stay safe!
