To the Muffin who…

To the Muffin who’d been with me every step of the way since I was eleven years old, thank you.

To the Muffin who didn’t have a home after her kittens were adopted out, thank you.

To the Muffin who found her owner at a Petsmart and took to her immediately even as she hissed at everyone else who approached her, thank you.

To the Muffin who drooled when she was happy and loved ear skritches above all other affection, thank you.

To the Muffin who was once “Amber” at the shelter, thank you.

To the Muffin who let a child make her middle name “Jade” after her beautiful green eyes, thank you.

To the Muffin who laid across my books, papers, and computer keyboards because she wanted my attention, thank you.

To the Muffin who shared soups and raviolis with me and stained her little mouth red with the sauce, thank you.

To the Muffin who comforted me as an angsty teen when I cried in my closet, thank you.

To the Muffin who laid on my chest and purred for me when I couldn’t walk, thank you.

To the Muffin who slept on my arm all night when I returned home on my first break from college, thank you.

To the Muffin who missed me each time I was away and made it known, thank you.

To the Muffin who slept pressed against me when scared or unsure, thank you.

To the Muffin who loved to lay in a good sun spot, especially atop a couch, thank you.

To the Muffin who was a brave girl even as she cried the whole time she was in a car, thank you.

To the Muffin who pooped all over the apartment those first few days after we moved in with my husband, thank you.

To the Muffin who destroyed many a door in her attempts to get into my teenage bedroom, or move about both our tiny marital apartment and our small, rented house in town, thank you.

To the Muffin who’d been in my life longer than any other friend, thank you.

To the Muffin who was a friend, confidant, child, roommate, and more, thank you.

To the Muffin who made me so angry when she assassinated my fish on Christmas morning, thank you.

To the Muffin who nuzzled my hands for pets with her little pink nose, thank you.

To the Muffin who liked to rest on things that smelled like me, thank you.

To the Muffin who always listened when I cried and as I laughed, thank you.

To the Muffin who sought us out at the end instead of running off to hide.

To the Muffin who, when we realized something was wrong, waited until I frantically arrived home to take her last breath under my hands, thank you.

Thank you for waiting.

Thank you for loving.

Thank you for being more than I ever deserved.

Thank you.

You will always be one of my greatest gifts. Time has made the memories of you hurt less, but there will always be so much love in my heart for you. You were and continue to be my precious baby kitty, even from afar.

To the Muffin who just wanted to be close, thank you. ❤

Muffin Jade, 2003-2019 ❤
