Shoujo’s 200 Follower Celebratory Giveaway! (And Inception Story)

For a long while, I’ve known that I planned to hold a celebratory sweepstakes once my blog hit 200 followers, and as of last month, as much finally occurred. With that milestone met, I think it’s time to share a little about the circumstances surrounding the start of my blog and to celebrate with all of you in the best way I know how across the distance; and so, onto this elaborative giveaway post.

(Are a sweepstakes and a giveaway the same thing? Apparently so. The legal-eese has me a bit baffled, but I digress.)

In any case, when I started this blog just over two years ago, I had a lot weighing on my mind; six months out of college, I was contemplating a return with accompanying career change. In addition to accumulated time and expenses, school has never been the best for my mental wellbeing (That’s a total understatement. I was a mess.), and the accompanying career change was potential in spite of additional schooling as the prospects were far from assured. The environment surrounding said career in question (though I truly love what I now do) wreaks HAVOC on the infection/contamination-based OCD I was mistaking for my generalized anxiety at the time. And Husband, knowing all this, was not fully supportive of my endeavor, though he knew I would do what I willed.

Why, he wondered, would you keeping doing this to yourself? Why would you make yourself miserable again? Why are you driving yourself insane? Are you sure that you can do this??

Well, no, I wasn’t sure. Far from sure, in fact, I was completely unsure. But various “in your face” this-was-meant-to-be signs were becoming too numerous to ignore when I took the plunge, and since that time, while things have had their ups and downs, I’ve not looked back.

When I made up my mind, I went for it; I applied for a job in the field, enrolled in school again, and started this blog. All within a few days.

(And, in spite of questionable outlooks, my first job prospect came on a Sunday morning before I’d even enrolled in school, and by the grace of God, despite the occupational climate, I’ve not been out of work for these past two years. But the goodness of God’s direction isn’t the point of this post, though perhaps it totally should be. I should ramble on about that another day.)

I started blogging while Husband was out on a work-related stocking trip, if memory serves. (He was starting up his own business at the time, you see, another area of stress.) I remember being so very upset about everything that was going on, scared to jump into the unknown, and feeling vaguely self-destructive (as was, at one time, my way). Instead of indulging in any less-than-healthy impulses, I decided I was going to blog.

Why, blogging? I couldn’t tell you, honestly. Maybe it was because I’d recently fallen in love with Ouran High School Host Club and decided to scream that love into the Internet instead of just at my dear friend, Chronic. I was new to anime, but quite smitten indeed. Maybe it was because I thought it would be fun and knew that, in spite of all the things I was dealing with at the moment, an anonymous internet blog would prove a distraction with little consequence. Maybe it was just because I didn’t have any more capacity to care about what might happen and decided to jump into something I’d wanted to do without fear.

In any case, I established my blog with almost no preplanning and began writing that very same day with the Ouran High School Host Club Watch Alongs.

Ah, those were the days. My blog looked quite different then. The layout was the same, sure, but the colors and featured characters were far more pastel (and Dance with Devils themed). (Sometimes I consider a new site renovation as it’s been a while, but that’s neither here nor there.) That day that I began blogging, I had no expectations. I didn’t know anyone would read it. I didn’t know that anyone would care about my rambles and ravings. So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. Because this has been an awesome journey. And we are 200 strong!

Anime Compatriots, you are incredible. You’re incredible because you care. You’re incredible because I can be honest with you. You’re incredible because you bother checking out what this random girl has written up. (Especially IRL friend, Chronic, who literally checks my blog every day for updates because that’s just the kind of guy he is.) As I continued writing, I stumbled into the anime blogosphere community when Rocco B told me that I should totally get a twitter handle, which I then did. And as I met more and more of you, relationships formed. My follower count grew. I got to know some of you pretty well as individuals, too. (Shout out to the Innominate Cast!!) Sometimes this kind of thing can make blogging a little scarier because now I’m no longer screaming in the general direction of nameless internet masses, but the trade off has been more than worth it, guys. 😛

So, in commemoration of our fangirl/boy-ing, our enthusiasm, of relationships formed and milestones reached, I’m opening up a sweepstakes.

I’ve been amassing items for quite a long time now, though I won’t be giving them all away at once. Instead, if this giveaway goes well, I plan to hold additional small giveaways with more frequency. Because I’m not 100% sure what I’m doing, this rodeo will only have one winner who gets to choose between three of the aforementioned amassed prizes. This time, I’ve limited options to:

Sanrio’s Little Twin Star Stackable Mugs

These licenced miniature (3in x 3in x 3in) mugs are a Lootcrate exclusive item and feature likenesses of beloved Sanrio characters, Kiki and Lala. For safety, I’d recommend handwashing only!

Free! Eternal Summer Cool Change Water Bottle

This licenced water bottle is a Lootcrate exclusive item and brought to you by Surreal Entertainment. Cool water in the bottle reveals the faces of infamous Iwatobi Swim Club boys. Handwash only!

Evangelion Miniature Plushies (set of 2– Rei and Asuka)

These licenced Evangelion plush characters come in 2 variants which I’ve included here as a set. Thus, in choosing this prize, the winner gets both Rei and Asuka.

Because this sweepstakes is a celebration of my first 200 blog followers on the WordPress platform, entrants must be numbered amongst the first 200 registered followers of the blog “Shoujo Thoughts: Otaku Ramblings.” (Meaning you must have subscribed on or before August 8th, 2018.)

To enter, read and comment on at least three (3) “Shoujo Thoughts: Otaku Ramblings” posts published between September 17th, 2018 and October 31st, 2018. Also, please comment with your favorite post published by “Shoujo Thoughts: Otaku Ramblings” (for curiosity purposes) between its inception and October 31st, 2018.

The winner will receive A CHOICE BETWEEN one (1) Free! Eternal Summer Cool Change Water Bottle, one (1) set of Little Twin Star Stackbale Mugs, OR one (1) pair of Eva Micro Macro Evangelion Plushies (Rei and Asuka).

Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policies are available because I’m ridiculous, but just know that everything is summed up as I’ve outlined here, buying anything doesn’t increase your chance of winning (not that I’m selling anything, anyway) and I won’t use any information I collect from you for anything other than shipping you your prize should you win. 🙂

To enter the sweepstakes, click here. I’ll include this link on all blog posts published between now and the sweepstakes conclusion. 🙂

Sketch (9)

I’m very excited and I hope you are too! (*^^*)b (Also, I’ve never done this before, so I hope it works out okay!)

Until I blog again,

  1. Firstly, congratulations on the 200 followers and thanks for running a giveaway/sweepstakes.
Secondly, I do not know what my favourite post from you is. There are literally so many great ones. I’ll hopefully have some time before the end of October to do a decent look through some of your old posts to see if I can come up with something.
    Congratulations again.
